Anniversary, stay cation and kung fu kicks

Can’t believe it’s been a year since we’ve been married.

It had really been a roller coaster of a year. Jo made the following video for our Malaysian wedding dinner last year. Now, for the first time on the internet, digitally remastered and complete with deleted scenes… a highlight of our wedding day:

To be honest, watching the video now brings on a bitter sweet feeling – to think that what was shown in the video happened only a year ago. So many things have changed since.

Anyway, seeing that we are on the cusp of our big trip, we did not really want to do much for the anniversary. We made use of our complimentary stay at Changi Village Hotel (with free buffet dinner and breakfast) and lazed the weekend away.

View from our room... Jo was excited...

We slept too much, ate ourselves silly, watched A LOT of cable TV  and Jo discovered she loved the Power Puff Girls… true story.

One of the highlights of Changi Village Hotel is that it has two AWESOME pools. A rooftop one which oversees the East Johor Strait, and another one at the courtyard with a glass wall. Let me repeat that… a GLASS WALL that lets you see what other people are doing inside the pool. If that is not a siren call to silliness, I don’t know what is.

Anyway, like I mentioned, we were given complimentary buffet dinners at Saltwater Cafe, the indigenous restaurant of Changi Village Hotel. We’ve had meals at Saltwater Cafe before and were generally unimpressed with the food, nor the service. The only redeeming quality of the buffet dinner was normally the sashimi that Jo loved.

This time round though, the staff seemed exceptionally friendly. The restaurant manager actually came out to greet us personally, “Oh, you are the wedding couple”, he told us as he guided us to our seat. The waiting staff were very attentive too. We were continually offered refills of our drinks by different waiters and waitresses. It felt good and we felt really pampered… until I realized that  the glass wall of the swimming pool faced the restaurant.
